Who Can Apply for SEZ Status?

Three categories of participants exist under Jamaica’s SEZ Act:

• Developer – Multi-Purpose, Single-Entity, or Specialised Developer.
• Occupant – Standard Occupant or MSME Occupant.
• Zone User – Provides authorised services within a Zone (without SEZ tax incentives).

Developer Eligibility:

• New company limited by shares registered in Jamaica.
• Minimum issued and paid-up share capital: US$1,500,000.

Occupant Eligibility:

• New company limited by shares registered in Jamaica.
• Minimum issued and paid-up share capital: US$25,000.
• At least US$50,000 investment in the first year.

MSME Occupant Eligibility:

• Leases space from a designated Multi-Purpose Developer.
• ≤ 50 employees and turnover ≤ US$150,000.
• Share capital minimum: US$25,000 within 4 years.

Prohibited Activities include: extractive industries, financial services, real estate, public utilities, health (except R&D), tourism, telecommunications, catering, retail, and specific intellectual property cases.
